Anita SÁROSI
born in 1972, lives in Budapest (H).
Anita Sárosi is a visual artist whose practice explores the dynamics of visual perception, illusion, and abstraction, revealing the shifting boundaries between the real and the virtual. Her creative trajectory spans a wide spectrum of media – from visual and sound art to media-based and interactive installations and collaborative art projects – reflecting a deep commitment to both technology and artistic experimentation.
She graduated in Visual Communication from the Hungarian University of Arts and Design (now MOME) in 1997, where she later pursued her Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) studies between 2000 and 2005. A member of the Balazs Bela Studio (BBS) since 1997, she served on its board from 1998 to 2001. In the early 2000s, she taught at MOME’s New Media Department and contributed to the establishment and accreditation of the Media Design BA and MA programs.
Sarosi first gained recognition as a media artist in the early 2000s: her work 'Dragon' (1999) received the Grand Prize at the 9th International Media Art Biennale, where she was the sole representative of Hungary. Her experimental films were screened from New York to Ankara, and her works have been shown at numerous international festivals and institutions.
Between 2000 and 2004, she was co-founder and curator of 'Art Window Gallery', Budapest’s first artist-run public-space contemporary art venue.
From 2005 to 2011, she worked as a founding member and research fellow of the Media Technology Group at the Institute for Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI, Hungarian Academy of Sciences), contributing to several research and development projects. The interactive installation 'Magic Mirror' at the Palace of Miracles engaged over one million visitors, becoming one of Hungary’s most successful media art installations.
Between 2004 and 2016, Sarosi participated in several international artist residencies, presenting her works in Linz, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Shanghai, Beijing, and beyond.
From 2012 to 2020, she focused on new imaging processes and visual experimentation, receiving international awards in photography and architecture, including recognition for the 'Csontvary Museum' architectural design (2016).
Her works are held in private collections and institutional archives, including the ZKM - Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the C3 Video Archive and Media Art Collection (Budapest), and the Studio of Young Artists’ Association (FKSA).
