The piece performed to pounding jazz, is a representation of a waking dream laced with bizarre terrors... for a moment, the tableaus that just emerge turn into surrealist, ballroom movement sequences in swimsuits and leotards, paying homage to Pina Bausch. We can see scenes saturated with pain, fear, and sadness floating in the light play of a shockingly strange lighting technique. Extraordinary.

At the centre of this new production by The Symptoms is the ever returning conflict between what is true and what is real. Interactive computer-generated projections respond to the movements, positions, and dynamics of the body – providing a graphically abstract moving image of the anxieties and fantasies of the six dancers. Innovative to the bone, 'Nothing There' is based on an overwhelmingly creative idea… we glimpse the outlines of an emerging opus whose originality, intellectual drive, playfulness, wit, and refinement must be declared truly exceptional by any standard you care to apply.
