asSA - processes
2008, performance documentation (loop), 07:30min.In her work 'asSA', Anita Sarosi explores the interplay of silhouette, shadow, darkness, and light – a figurative investigation into conscious and unconscious “processes.” This loop preserves an interactive performance from 2008, which emerged as an accidental yet captivating outcome of a coding experiment within an otherwise predictable artistic process.
In the original work, a computer screen acted as a mirror, while a hidden camera captured the viewer. The program separated the moving figure from the background in real time, projecting a reversed image back onto the screen. As the participant moved, white tracks and openings appeared on the black surface, while the program dynamically enhanced the black areas in response. Standing still, only a thin white line indicated one’s presence – the image was never fully black or white.
'asSA - processes' created a unique situation for self-examination, allowing viewers to see their silhouettes multiply and cascade into layers.
“The vibration of the white outlines simulates the structural model of the personality, presenting the layers of the subconscious, the ego, and the superego in a way a real mirror could not do.” – Emese Mucsi, curator
'asSA - processes' was presented at Videospace Budapest in 2008 and recently years appeared at the Black Light Group Exhibition, Institution of Contemporary Art (ICA-D), Dunaujvaros, Hungary, in 2019.
Since 2020 this work of art has been a part of the FKSE Studio Foundation (FKSA) collection
